Mechanical crack-off

Tshe crack-off technique is used for hollow glassware with a wall thickness of maximum 4 mm. It is devoted to the production of tableware and tumblers.

Scribing

The exact place where the moil will be cut off is defined by a line marked into the glass using a scribing wheel, according to the same method as those used by glaziers. This scribing line will be the breaking point in the next step.

Thermal shock and forced cooling

The item is heated-up at the height of the scribing line by means of a very accurate H2/O2 flame. Then this place is submitted to a jet of compressed air. The temperature variations generated by this procedure create tensions in the glass which will break exactly at the weakest place.
